There is, however, a bonus DVD in the set with the acclaimed two and a half hour The Madness of Max 'making of' documentary on it, which interviews everyone and leaves no stone unturned on the production of the feature; it more than makes up for the packaging. Nevertheless, specular highlights reveal the real overall improvements, as the brightest and hottest spots come with a tighter, narrower glow, such as the sunshine peeking along the edges of clouds or various metallic surfaces showing a better, more realistic sheen in bright daylight.Effects are discrete, absorbing, and from everywhere, dialogue is natural sounding, and given any directionality it needs, the score pulsates around the room. It goes totally off the rails, the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang-esque kids attack on Bartertown is head-scratchingly crazy, Master putting on more and more clothes the further from the camp, “Stop, this is a stick-up” ….

The native 4K image on Mad Max The Road Warrior is a huge improvement, very well detailed, bright, vivid colouring, almost ‘hot’, and strong blacks, while the Dolby Atmos track is immersive, detailed with good effects and strong bass. There are definitely more oranges and splashes of colors on the girls outfits, but this is not a leaps and bounds transfer by any means. Max himself became an icon, launching its star into international fame (Mel Gibson looks impossibly young here!I saw nothing of the Mad Max I grew up with and the complete lack of verbal storytelling was horribly off putting. Fortified in the massive, armored truck the War Rig, they try to outrun the ruthless warlord and his henchmen in a deadly high-speed chase through the Wasteland. The third option is the American dubbed version while the second is the original monoaural Australian track, and the first is a 5. I don’t think I appreciated this movie as much when I was younger but watching it as an adult it’s easy to see how Mad Max inspired a whole genre of post-apocalyptic action movies as well as 3 sequels (so far) and an upcoming spin-off.

Music superstar Tine Turner steals what's left of the screen as Aunty Entity, a power-mad dominatrix determined to use Max to tighten her stranglehold on Bartertown.Certain items can take longer to source than the estimated week, particularly during busy trading periods and may take longer to arrive at our warehouse. Compared to the Blu-ray, blacks are extraordinarily deep and opaque, oozing off the screen with incredible inky richness, which again add some pop to the presentation. The big bad this time is Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne) who promises great things to the last remnants of humanity but is just as evil as anyone who has come before.
